While growing up in Montana, my (occasional artist) dad gave me his old oil paints. I spent my teen years teaching myself how to paint on cheap canvas panels, and in 1974 earned an extremely small art scholarship to Montana State University, Bozeman. From 1974—1978 I studied fine arts under professors Bob DeWeese, Francis Noel, John Bashor, Syd Kurland, John Buck and John Catterall among others.

After graduating, I gave up oil painting in order to make money — working first
as a graphic designer and then as an art director for newspapers, ad agencies and magazines. Later, while raising our three daughters, I was an occasional freelance graphic designer in addition to having a thriving side business of collecting wood pieces, wood burning+oil painting them, then selling them at galleries and shops.

I've returned forever now to my first love — oil painting. I paint whatever interests me at the moment, wherever I find it — usually near my home of Boulder, Colorado and occasionally elsewhere on my travels.
